What warranties are provided for Solar Panels, inverters, cables, mounting kit as well as an installation warranty for commercial or industrial solar system?

Let’s have a quick look at the warranties provided by solar companies on the installation of commercial solar systems for solar panels, inverters, mounting kits, cables and so on.

Solar Panels

Most solar panel modules are warranted against manufacturing defects for at least 10 years. The power output in the solar modules is also guaranteed and you will get a performance warranty from most manufacturers of 25 years.

There are generally two types of warranties that come with solar panels.

There is a warranty on a minimum performance of 90% of the rated output for the first half of 25 years, and on 80% of the rated output for the second half of 25 years. This is the Standard Warranty.

The other type of warranty is a 25 year performance warranty that promises a maximum degradation of 2.5% in the first year, and in the range of 0.5–0.7% per year following that.

Inverters

Most inverters offer a standard warranty of up to 5 years, which covers the damages or defects that on the inverters parts during this time. Inverter Manufacturers provide extended warranties that cover the inverter for up to 7-10 years for an additional expense.

Mounting structures

Mounting structures have a warranty of 1 year with the option of extending the warranty for up to 5 years.

Batteries

Batteries have a warranty of 1 year with the option of extending the warranty for up to 5 years.

Cables

Cables have a warranty of 1 year with the option of extending the warranty for up to 5 years.

 Junction Boxes/Enclosures for Inverters/Charge Controllers/Luminaries

Junction boxes and enclosures for inverters or charge controllers have a warranty of 1 year with the option of extending the warranty for up to 5 years.

Note: The warranties on the solar panels do not cover all component failures. Some of the component failures could be due to poor design of the rooftop solar plant.

For example, if you have Shadows falling on the panels they could burn out. Also, there could be overheating dues to the poor fastening of the connectors. There could be damaged due to birds and rodents to the cables.  These are things to consider.
